Shanvalley Innovative Food Company's ethos is producing delicious healthy snack food in a sustainable manner. In 2013, the company launched its granola snack bar under the name Karma Elevate. This was followed in 2017 by another healthy option, a raw fruit and nut bar called Karma Free.
Karma uses only natural ingredients, free from additives, preservatives and artificial colours. It was the first company in the Irish food industry to replace all of its plastic wrappings with a fully certified, compostable alternative.
Karma's plant-based material breaks down into compost and can be put into the brown household waste bin. The cardboard packaging is also Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) approved and therefore sustainably sourced and fully recyclable.
By 2021, Shanvalley have set a target of achieving 100% eco-friendly and sustainable packaging for their Karma product range. This will be achieved through the use of Forest Stewardship Council approved cardboard and by substituting all plastic packaging with a biodegradable material.
As an outsourcing company, Shanvalley is committed to outsourcing all manufacturing processes to suppliers that have sustainability plans in place. They are working with current manufacturing suppliers to ensure all ingredients are sourced sustainably, as well as identifying new potential manufacturing suppliers whom already have sustainability plans in place.
Shanvalley Innovative Food Company are aiming to achieve complete elimination of added sugar in their product recipes by 2021, from the baseline year 2017.
