Keohane Seafoods, established in 2011, are a well-known family-owned business based in Cork. Building on over 30 years of experience fishing in the Atlantic waters, Michael Keohane and his two sons Colman and Brian built up their seafood production business, selling a vast range of fresh and frozen seafood products which have earned them multiple awards over the past decade.
The Keohane family is proud of their strong focus on innovation within the fish and seafood sector, paving the way for innovative packaging since their inception. The business has grown significantly in the past few years, working with local hotels and restaurants as well as select retailers. Additionally, their highest-quality premium products are exported internationally to Europe and the US.
Spotlight Target Area: Water
With climate change impacting the availability of fresh water across the country, Keohane Seafoods made it their mission within the three years of this plan to reduce their water consumption in their Bantry facility where most of their production is based. In 2022, the business achieved a 17.5% reduction of water usage for their site, placing them 15.5% ahead of their milestone target.
In order to achieve the successful improvement upon their targets, Keohane Seafoods have developed a water usage training programme for their staff. This was successfully rolled out in the past year and delivered across the businesses to all staff involved in cleaning processes during which water is predominantly used the most across the factory. Consequently, Keohane Seafoods increased awareness on water reduction techniques and strengthened their commitment to sustainable business practices in their production processes.
