Key Sustainability Commitments

Spotlight Target Area: Energy/ Emissions

The sustainable, environmentally conscious use of resources is the basis of the production process at Arthur Mallon Foods, ensuring that future generations can continue live in a healthy, thriving environment. With this in mind, the company's electricity intensity dropped from 189 kWh/tonne in 2020 to 170 kWh/tonne in 2021, compared to a target milestone of 183 kWh/tonne. Exceeding this target is particularly notable as product output was higher than anticipated throughout 2021 and despite this, overall electricity use was still reduced.

Through its ongoing commitment to sustainability, the company engaged with Enterprise Ireland - an Origin Green partner, and the Pembroke Alliance, to initiate a Climate Action Report with the aim of driving further energy savings into the future. Working towards a Circular Economy with existing Waste streams: With an ongoing commitment to a sustainable ethos, Arthur Mallon Foods intend to implement a circular economy process on its site by installing a plastic baler and liaising with its supplier, Shabra. Shabra will produce black plastic garbage bags from the waste generated, which Arthur Mallon Foods will then purchase for use on site.

Approach to Sustainability
Arthur Mallon Foods are conscious of their responsibility to operate sustainably, committing to equally reducing their impact on the environment whilst increasing the positive difference they can make in society, for their staff and customers. Within this year of their 2019-2023 Origin Green Plan, the member reported on eight targets across six target areas and achieved exemplary results in their Supplier Certification, Packaging, Energy/Emissions and Employee Wellbeing targets.
